🚆 Canadian National Railway ( ), the Mississippi State Port of Authority at Gulfport, and Ports America introduced a new intermodal service at the Port of Gulfport.
🌐 The trial run for the new service is set to launch in the coming weeks, marking a strategic move by CN to enhance its intermodal options and compete with trucks for market share.
🚚 This development aligns with recent efforts by Class I railroads, including CN, to strengthen their intermodal offerings. J.B. Hunt Transport Services and BNSF Railway recently announced their premium intermodal offering, Quantum, aimed at improving delivery times.
🛤️ CN had previously expanded its intermodal services through collaborations with Union Pacific, Grupo Mexico, and Norfolk Southern.
🌊 The new intermodal service at the Port of Gulfport is expected to provide shippers with enhanced ocean connectivity options, facilitating the movement of goods between the Gulf Coast, US Midwest, and Canada.
🚢 The Port of Gulfport, currently serviced by Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC), specializes in various cargo services, including refrigerated storage, break bulk shipments, foreign trade, and warehousing.
🌍 CN's Vice President of Intermodal, Dan Bresolin, emphasized that the collaboration aims to maximize the railway's southern network capacity for sustainable and profitable growth.
🤝 Ports America COO, Rob Kusciel, expressed pride in the agreement, highlighting the potential to offer customers direct access to new markets and business opportunities.
📈 The move follows the April formation of Canadian Pacific Kansas City, a merger between Canadian Pacific and Kansas City Southern, signaling a broader trend in the rail industry to optimize services and expand market reach.
