Many organizations are changing their hours for the summer - like our friends Open Door Outreach Center, Inc. If you have a standing appointment, please check with your organization to see if they have a change in service times. Give us a call to adjust appointment times.

In addition, Open Door Outreach Center, Inc, is looking for volunteers. Did you know that WOTA is also here to get you to places where you can volunteer? Call today to set up your ride!

📢 Beginning Monday, June 22nd, we're shifting to our summer hours at the Food Pantry and Client Services

📅 We'll be open Mondays from 10am to 4pm and closed on Wednesdays, starting June 24th. Please update your calendars and help spread the word.

🤝We're also looking for a few extra volunteers to help us out this summer— Monday afternoons at Client Services (1:30–4pm), and for both Pantry shifts.

If you have some time to give, we would truly appreciate the help. 💙

June is Elder Abuse Awareness Month, a time to learn the signs of abuse, neglect, and exploitation and help protect older adults in our communities.

Elder abuse can take many forms, including financial exploitation, neglect, emotional abuse, and physical abuse. By staying informed, speaking up when something doesn't seem right, and helping older adults stay connected to support systems, we can all play a role in prevention.

We love partnering with local resources. Oakland Audiology has been a good friend to our organization. Below is some interesting information about how incredibly complex our inner ear truly is and how these mighty, but small structures, have an big impact on our lives.

Ever wonder how you can hear a whisper, your favorite song, or a dog barking down the street?
🔹 Step 1: Sound Enters
Sound waves travel through the air and enter your outer ear.
🔹 Step 2: The Eardrum Vibrates
Those waves hit your eardrum, causing it to vibrate like a drum.
🔹 Step 3: Tiny Bones Amplify the Sound
Three of the smallest bones in your body—the malleus, incus, and stapes—boost the vibrations.
🔹 Step 4: The Cochlea Converts Sound
The vibrations reach the cochlea, a spiral-shaped structure filled with fluid. Tiny hair cells inside convert the vibrations into electrical signals.
🔹 Step 5: Your Brain Interprets It
The auditory nerve sends those signals to your brain, which identifies them as voices, music, laughter, and more.
✨ Fun Fact: Your ears also help you maintain balance, not just hear sounds!
