began its life as Swarthout & Ferris. In 1950 a partnership between Robert Swarthout and Spencer Ferris started. First as a Texaco gas station then school bus service in the Fall Creek area of Ithaca, NY

Swarthout & Ferris remained in the Fall Creek area providing school bus service, limited charter service, and a full service Texaco gas station until 1960. The operation was then moved to the pre

sent location of 115 Graham Road. The gas station was discontinued to allow more attention to be paid to the school bus and charter bus operations. Steady improvements were made in both areas of the company. In 1974, the company discontinued the school bus operations and concentrated entirely on charters. In 1979, Rob Swarthout joined the company learning all the facets of the business. In 1987, Spencer Ferris retired and sold his share of the bus company to the current owner, Rob Swarthout. Swarthout Coach ToursIn the early 1980’s the company began operating tours in addition to the charter service. In 1994, Robert Swarthout passed away, leaving his son, Rob Swarthout, the remainder of the company. At that time the company name was changed to Swarthout Coaches, Inc. operates a fleet of twelve (12) coaches that provide tour and charter service for the central New York area.

The Cortland Red Dragons scored 35 points in the first half, including three touchdown passes from Zac Boyes to Cole Burgess, to cruise past Randolph-Macon and into the Division 3 Football National Championship game

We are 💪

We are gearing up for another exciting year with our cherished group of customers; while also working on several opportunities to grow our company AND our employees...we will spread those new tidbits over the next several weeks, but wanted to start off with our efforts to improve our industry, specifically our Bus Operators.

Starting on September 4th, Swarthout Bus Operators will be receiving salary adjustments that will make them among the highest paid in the region (across all sectors of passenger transportation). This is the result of our commitment to them that they (and their families) are worth so much more than what the industry was accustomed to paying them. When you operate a motorcoach that costs well over a half million dollars and must safely transport upwards of 50+ people to a destination...it is our belief that a wage slightly above state minimums is grossly inappropriate.

We have effectively doubled our operators' wage rate and are on target to building those into a livable wage rate that will lessen the stress of all trying to support their families; while also allowing them a greater amount of time to spend with them and nurturing their family unit.

That isn't all!

Also, starting on September 4th, we will no longer abide by another industry norm...the absence of overtime pay for those that work over 40 hours a week. Our operators will be rewarded with this generally accepted norm of paying half time for all time worked over 40 hours in a week.

Sprinkle in some incentives for safety performance, operational performance & your recruitment efforts; and you'll end up with a healthy salary. Our top earners last year earned just under $100k each and we had several part-timers that exceeded $50k!

We woke up to find that our provider for phone & internet service is reporting that all of their customers in Ithaca are without service.
