π£π£π£ Tropical Storm / Hurricane Idalia heading to FL, GA and the Carolinas π£π£π£
Update 8:30 a.m. | Aug. 28: (Source: NOAA)
Idalia is forecast to become a hurricane when it nears western Cuba later today. Life-threatening storm surge and dangerous winds becoming increasingly likely for portions of Florida.
The National Hurricane Center has placed western FL Counties in the potential path of Tropical Storm Idalia. A Hurricane Watch and a Storm Surge Watch.
- Tropical Storm/Hurricane force winds possible
- 6+ in of rain near the coast
- 2-11 ft storm surge may vary per area (our area may experience 4-7 feet surge β this could increase as updates come out)
- Localized street flooding is possible. DO NOT drive through floodwaters. Six inches of moving water has the potential to knock you off your feet, and a foot of water can sweep a vehicleβeven a large SUVβoff the road.
- A few tornadoes may be possible.
- Treasure Island does not distribute sandbags. Sandbags do not protect against storm surge.
* Get Storm Ready:
- Along the coast, storm surge is often the greatest threat to life and property from a hurricane.
* PLEASE evacuate if our area is placed under a mandatory evacuation.
- Secure loose items around your home & yard: lawn chairs, umbrellas, trash cans, etc.
- Please make sure all drains and storm sewers are clean and clear. Public Works crews will also be making checks of stormwater drainage systems.
