I know first hand how this can be. I had to deal with similar situations when I was an OTR and local driver.
That's why it is important to properly plan your trip and give yourself ample time to get to and fro your destinations.
You just never know what to expect on your way, especially if your route will bring you through a major city or 2.

Update 8:30 a.m. | Aug. 28: (Source: NOAA)

Idalia is forecast to become a hurricane when it nears western Cuba later today. Life-threatening storm surge and dangerous winds becoming increasingly likely for portions of Florida.

The National Hurricane Center has placed western FL Counties in the potential path of Tropical Storm Idalia. A Hurricane Watch and a Storm Surge Watch.
- Tropical Storm/Hurricane force winds possible
- 6+ in of rain near the coast
- 2-11 ft storm surge may vary per area (our area may experience 4-7 feet surge – this could increase as updates come out)
- Localized street flooding is possible. DO NOT drive through floodwaters. Six inches of moving water has the potential to knock you off your feet, and a foot of water can sweep a vehicle—even a large SUV—off the road.
- A few tornadoes may be possible.
- Treasure Island does not distribute sandbags. Sandbags do not protect against storm surge.
* Get Storm Ready:
- Along the coast, storm surge is often the greatest threat to life and property from a hurricane.
* PLEASE evacuate if our area is placed under a mandatory evacuation.
- Secure loose items around your home & yard: lawn chairs, umbrellas, trash cans, etc.
- Please make sure all drains and storm sewers are clean and clear. Public Works crews will also be making checks of stormwater drainage systems.

📣📣📣A quick update on where some opportunities currently lie in this market 📣📣📣
Dry van loads are pretty tight with not much to chose from, therefore the opportunities for these loads are not the best. However, if you can manage to make some tough decisions, and are willing to run, you can make enough to become or remain profitable and in the black.
Flatbed loads are mainly concentrated in the south and gulf coast but there are some opportunities elsewhere as well.
Reefers are very concentrated in the northern part of the Midwest, as always and some other opportunities on the West Coast as well.
