SPOTLIGHT FRIDAY | Meet our VP of Fixed Wing Operations, Jennie van Dongen, MBA, RN! ✈️💙

Behind every great team are leaders who bring experience, passion, and a genuine commitment to making a difference. Today, we're shining the spotlight on someone we're incredibly proud to have as part of the Atlas Air Ambulance family: Jennie van Dongen, our Vice President of Fixed Wing Operations!

With 20 years of experience in healthcare and air medical transportation, Jennie's career has spanned nearly every aspect of patient transport. From providing hands-on clinical care aboard helicopters, fixed-wing aircraft, and ground ambulances to leading fixed-wing operations at MedCenter Air, she's built her expertise from the ground up. Her experience extends well beyond patient care, encompassing international business development, operational leadership, healthcare partnerships, and revenue cycle management. Combined with her nursing background, MBA, and Master's in Healthcare Administration, Jennie brings a rare combination of clinical knowledge, business insight, and firsthand operational experience to Atlas Air Ambulance.

But what makes Jennie such an important part of Atlas goes beyond her credentials. It's her passion for bringing people together, building meaningful partnerships, and ensuring that patients around the world receive the care and coordination they deserve.

And when she's not helping keep our fixed-wing operations moving? You'll likely find her spending time with her dogs, traveling internationally, baking elaborate specialty cakes, or exploring a winery. 🍷🐾

🏍️ Our favorite fun fact? Jennie got her first motorcycle when she was FIVE YEARS OLD and raced dirt bikes all the way through college! Clearly, adventure has always been part of her story.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — October 2026 — Health care, aviation, emergency response and medical transport teams from across Jacksonville came together Oct. 1 for a multi-agency Mass Casualty Exercise at Hangar 1 at Jacksonville Executive at Craig Airport, designed to test how regional partners would coordinate during an aviation-related medical emergency.

The exercise brought together Atlas Air Ambulance, Wolfson Children's Hospital Kids Kare, Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department, Jacksonville Aviation Authority, and Baptist Health in a simulated severe-turbulence event involving three injured occupants.

For Atlas Air Ambulance, the exercise also supported our ongoing Safety Management System implementation and emergency preparedness efforts under 14 CFR Part 5, including the coordination of emergency response planning with the outside organizations we may work alongside during an aviation emergency.

Exercises like this move emergency planning beyond written procedures and into a realistic environment where teams can evaluate communication, patient movement, clinical handoffs, and operational responsibilities before those systems are ever needed in a real-world event.

We're Growing | Remote Fixed Wing Flight Coordinator Job Opening

Atlas Air Ambulance is growing, and we’re looking for a Fixed Wing Flight Coordinator to join our team remotely.

This role helps coordinate fixed-wing air medical transports from the first inquiry through mission completion, including working with hospitals, case managers, families, insurance providers, and our clinical and aviation teams. Responsibilities may include preparing transport quotes, assisting with insurance authorizations and Single Case Agreements, coordinating flight logistics, and helping keep each mission moving smoothly from start to finish.

Because medical flights don’t always happen during traditional business hours, schedule flexibility is extremely important in this position. Evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays may be part of the schedule depending on active flights and transport needs.

We’re looking for someone who is organized, responsive, comfortable managing multiple moving pieces, and able to communicate clearly in a fast-paced environment. Previous experience in air ambulance coordination, medical transport, insurance authorization, healthcare transfer centers, or aviation operations is preferred.
