The Georgia Ports Authority reported Savannah container volumes were down 2.5% year-to-date through April as shippers continue navigating softer market conditions and higher operating costs.

Despite the slowdown, major expansion projects are moving full speed ahead:

-$5 billion investment plan underway
-New inland port in Gainesville now open
-Ocean Terminal renovations progressing
-Brunswick remains the nation’s busiest auto/RoRo port for the second straight year

The new Gainesville Inland Port is expected to move thousands of containers from truck to rail annually, helping reduce congestion while improving efficiency across the Southeast supply chain.

Roadcheck 2026 recap 🚨

Last week’s blitz reminded the industry that the smallest issues can lead to major downtime. The biggest violations found were brakes, tires, lighting, and ELD compliance.
