So, I've seen this pic on a few sites recently. It's another tailgate pic that I'm sharing. It's terrible. I don't mind being a snob and uppity about this. This is dumb. I'm not posting this to make fun of the driver or crew. I'm posting this as an example of what not to do. I get it. Lots of variables could factor into why a tailgate was performed. An A for effort for not wanting to leave an overflow. The straps alone after miles of vibration and friction can tear into the plastic. For the new and younger drivers, here's a solution. Double or triple bag your matts unless you're going between southern Arizona or southern Vegas to southern Cali. Lol. Take no chances. I'd prefer to bag, box, tarp, and then stretch wrap. The boxes add extra integrity. That's been the most effective way for me. I've gone through tropical storms, and everything was bone dry. If you decide to roll the dice and tailgate, mattresses are the easiest. They're square and manageable by one person if you need to rearrange or tighten up. They draw less attention than the "Sanford and Son" gates at the scales and on the highway. No excuse for not tarping or adding extra protection. I've tailgated before like that when I've ran out of material, but I went to a Lowe's or Home Depot ASAP to get material to better protect the items out there. You can also have Uber Eats deliver items from Home Depot and other hardware stores to you. All of that is worth more than what a potential claim on that mattress would be. Last but not least, it's a bad optic. I will use that term ad nauseum. I wouldn't be happy if that was my mattress. Neither would most of you. - Sherrell

Throwing it back to the early days of the space race—when even spacecraft needed a reliable ride. 🚀

This is the Friendship 7 capsule, which carried John Glenn on the first American orbital flight in 1962, safely transported by United Van Lines.

We’re proud to have played a small part in a mission that helped make history and paved the way for today’s space milestones.

Let’s Talk About Retained/Distributable Revenue (In Plain English)
I’ve been quiet for a while, but it’s time for a little rant — because too many drivers are getting paid without ever understanding how they’re getting paid.
1. Do you actually read your lease?
There’s a section in there that explains retained or distributable revenue.
Here’s the simple version:
Some carriers take a percentage off the linehaul before they calculate your share.
This retained amount can be as high as 35%.
So even if your contract says “76%,” you might actually be getting 76% of only 65% of the linehaul, not the whole thing.
2. Why this matters
You need to know your retained chargeback before you accept a load.
But here’s the problem…
I asked Atlas about a specific account’s retained amount. Their answer:
“We won’t know until it’s delivered and processed.”
So you're hauling a load without knowing what you’re going to make. You can guess, but the leasing regulations say you’re supposed to know before you drive.

Simple Example (All based on a $10,000 billed linehaul)
35% retained = you get paid based on 65% of the linehaul.
Formula:
Billed linehaul × (.65 retained ) × your % = your pay
If you’re at 56%:
$10,000 × 0.65 × 0.56 = $3,640
(You’re only getting 36.4% of the actual billed linehaul)
If you’re at 66%:
$10,000 × 0.65 × 0.66 = $4,290
(42.9% of billed linehaul)
If you’re at 76%:
$10,000 × 0.65 × 0.76 = $4,940
(49.4% of billed linehaul)
You need a 76% contract just to get about half of the billed linehaul.
And yes, there are 56% retained contracts out there — and many drivers have no idea.
Some agents even take your advances for the next trip out of your last check, keeping your cash flow negative on purpose.

Now let me contrast that with how we operate.
At Stewart Moving & Storage:
We pay off billed linehaul, not retained.
Chargebacks and advances stop at the end of the trip, not weeks later.
We kept drivers loaded all winter long, including drivers leased to other carriers who needed help.
And yes — this year, our leader Wes Stewart, was honored to receive the 2025 IAM Excellence in Leadership Award for building a company that leads with people first.
From helper → driver → owner → CEO… I’ve lived every role in this business, and I believe:
“We are nothing without our drivers.”

We’re growing. We’re hiring. Want to haul with us?
We currently have 10 agents and are looking for owner-operators to haul our trailers.
Preferred lanes:
East Coast → Florida
East Coast/Florida → Texas
East Coast/Florida →California
East Coast/Florida → Washington State
