The legal system in this country discriminates against fathers seeking custody of their children, especially when it is a black man trying to get his child. It’s designed to keep black fathers out of the home and promotes the next generation of incarcerated black fathers.

Rode the bus to his graduation.
Walked across the stage with no family support, nobody to hug him or congratulate him.
Rode the bus back home.
The back of his gown wet due to sweat.
He defied the odds.
He was motivated to complete his task.
