Cargo Thefts Dropped in Q2 — So Why Did Losses Double?

Verisk CargoNet reported that cargo theft incidents fell 26% year over year in Q2 — but total estimated losses more than doubled to $304.6 million, up from $135.6 million a year earlier.

The Longest Freight Downturn on Record Just Ended

After three and a half years, the freight market finally turned a corner.

Cass Information Systems reported that freight shipments rose 2.1% year over year in August — the first annual gain since January 2023, ending a 42-month downturn that was the longest on record.

What the data shows:
▪️ Truckload linehaul rates jumped 11.3% year over year, the largest increase since June 2022
▪️ Shipments were up 5.6% month over month, essentially reversing the June and July declines
▪️ Contract rates are adjusting higher even as spot rates cool

Hairnets on, aprons tied, and a whole lot of Valley Express red in the room.

Last Thursday, team members from across the Valley Express Family of Companies rolled up their sleeves at Oshkosh Corporation's Feed the Body, Feed the Soul event, packing food staples that go directly to local food pantries and families facing food insecurity.

Every year, this event brings together more than 1,200 volunteers worldwide to pack over 250,000 pounds of food, with live music keeping the energy up the whole time. Locally, the food heads to neighbors in need through Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin.

A huge thank you to everyone who showed up and gave a few hours of their day. We move freight for a living, but this is the kind of work that reminds us why community matters. Proud to stand alongside Oshkosh Corporation and the other volunteers who made it happen.
