Please join us in recognizing Somer Alford for her dedication and service to MCPSS Transportation!
Since joining the Transportation Department on August 13, 2020, Somer has demonstrated a willingness to serve wherever she is needed. As the regular school bus driver for Semmes Elementary School, she plays an important role in helping students get to and from school safely.
Somer has also stepped up to assist with substitute driving at Semmes Middle School and Mary G. Montgomery High School, showing her flexibility, dependability, and commitment to supporting students and fellow team members across our schools.
Her willingness to go beyond her regular assignment reminds us that being a school bus driver is about more than driving a bus it's about teamwork, service, and making a difference in the lives of students.

💛💙 ZONE 4 EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT: ELAINE STONE! 💙💛
If you know Elaine, you know what a blessing she is to have on your team! 🚌💛 Today, I’m so happy to shine a little spotlight on Elaine Stone, one of our wonderful bus drivers at Fonde, celebrating 3 years of service! As her supervisor, I can honestly say Elaine is one of those people you can count on. Whenever I need her, she is always willing to help. Whether it’s picking up an extra route or jumping in wherever she is needed, Elaine rarely hesitates to say yes. I’m pretty sure she has driven just about every route at Fonde by now! 😂 That kind of willingness and teamwork means more than she probably realizes. But what I appreciate most about Elaine is her heart. ❤️ She genuinely cares about her students and treats them with love and kindness. She understands that being a bus driver is about so much more than getting students from one place to another. It’s about building relationships, making students feel safe, and showing them that someone cares. Elaine brings that heart to her job every day. She is also the kind of coworker everyone needs someone who is willing to lend a hand, step up when asked, and be part of the team. Those little things make a BIG difference, and I’m thankful to have someone like her on Zone 4.
Elaine, thank you for being YOU! Thank you for your willingness to help, your caring heart, and the love you show your students. I appreciate you more than you know, and Zone 4 is lucky to have you! 💛💙

Please join us in celebrating Shantel Watson for her dedication, teamwork, and commitment to serving MCPSS students!
Shantel is a dedicated dual-route school bus driver serving Blount High School and Orchard Elementary School. Since returning to MCPSS Transportation on November 28, 2023, she has continued to demonstrate her willingness to serve and make a difference.
Shantel shows great initiative by stepping up to help fellow drivers cover their routes when needed. Her willingness to lend a helping hand reflects the teamwork, flexibility, and dedication that keeps our transportation department moving forward.
School transportation is more than getting students from one place to another. It takes dependable professionals who are willing to support one another and put students first. Shantel's actions demonstrate the value of working together to keep our schools and routes running smoothly.

For the past 2 years, Vincent Eaton has been making a difference in Zone 1! Vincent is the kind of team member every transportation department needs. When a route needs to be covered or an extra hand is needed, Vincent is willing to step up and help keep things moving. His willingness to fill in wherever he is needed helps take some of the pressure off his fellow drivers and keeps our students’ transportation needs a priority. Vincent understands that teamwork is more than just driving a route; it’s about being there for one another and doing what it takes to keep the department running smoothly. His flexibility and commitment make him someone the team can depend on when the unexpected happens.

Debbie is a seasoned school bus driver who serves Semmes Middle School and Mary G. Montgomery High School as a dual-route driver. In addition to her regular routes, she also handles a vocational route in between her scheduled runs, demonstrating her commitment to helping meet the transportation needs of our students. When the Zone 2 supervisor calls Debbie for assistance, she is always willing to step up and help. Whether the need is at a middle school, high school, or elementary school, Debbie is ready to lend a helping hand. Her flexibility and willingness to assist wherever she is needed make her a valuable asset to the MCPSS Transportation team. Debbie exemplifies what it means to be a team player. She understands that school transportation takes cooperation, dependability, and a shared commitment to serving our students. Her willingness to take on additional responsibilities and support other routes reflects a true dedication to the mission of MCPSS Transportation. Debbie has been serving with MCPSS Transportation since August 7, 2006, bringing 20 years of experience, dedication, and commitment to our transportation team. Jenny has been serving with MCPSS Transportation since March 26, 2008. With years of experience under her belt, she continues to demonstrate what it means to be a dedicated transportation professional. As a dual-plus driver serving Semmes Middle School, Mary G. Montgomery High School, and Allentown Elementary School, Jenny takes on multiple responsibilities while ensuring students have reliable transportation. She also willingly steps in to substitute for other drivers whenever needed, always ready to lend a helping hand without hesitation. Jenny has earned a reputation as one of our go-to drivers because of her flexibility, reliability, and willingness to support the team. Her excellent attendance throughout her years with Transportation further reflects her professionalism and dedication to her responsibilities. 💙💛 ZONE 6 EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT: LYNN HOVEN! 💛💙
Today, Zone 6 would like to shine a very special spotlight on Lynn Hoven, who has dedicated 15 years to MCPSS. Lynn is one of those people who doesn’t just show up to do a job—she shows up because she genuinely cares about our students, her coworkers, and the work we do. Recently, Zone 6 had a student missing after hours, and Lynn immediately showed just how big her heart is. Without being asked, Lynn left her home and went to the school bus to get a copy of the roster for the driver so that everyone had the information they needed. While she was there, she also started the bus for her supervisor so the video could be downloaded as quickly as possible to assist MCPSS personnel and first responders in their efforts to locate the student. She didn’t do any of this because she had to. She did it because she cares. ❤️ And that is Lynn. She is also our go-to person for new drivers in Zone 6. Lynn takes the time to help new employees learn their routes, answer questions, and feel welcomed. She is always willing to lend a helping hand, and she does it with a kindness and patience that makes a difference. After 15 years, Lynn continues to show us what dedication and teamwork really look like. She is the kind of employee every supervisor hopes to have on their team. Lynn, thank you for always being willing to step up, help out, and look out for our students and your coworkers. Your heart for this job and the people around you does not go unnoticed. Zone 6 is truly better because you are a part of it! 💙💛
