The Joe Webster Memorial Scholarship was presented to four livestock exhibitors during the 2026 Cumberland County Junior Market Livestock Sale.
"Joe Webster is fondly remembered for the many years spent at this sale. He loved supporting all the 4-H and FFA members at the sale, but also being at ringside all week to watch all the hard work put into these projects all year.
The scholarship was offered to each age division--novice, junior, intermediate, and seniors, with the younger groups being awarded $250 and the seniors $1000. This award can be used towards future projects for animals, feed, supplies, or for the older students, towards post-secondary education or workforce supplies.
The applications were completed on site at the fair throughout the week--so all applicants were required to fill out the application on the spot, without any help from parents or other adults at the show.
Each age division had different questions, but a lot of themes of their answers remained the same. Many of these exhibitors, when asked about new awards they would create for the fair, wanted awards for their parents and supporters who make their success possible. when reflecting on what they will miss most, no one mentioned banners or ribbons--but they all talked about the community and friendships they have built at the fair."
Joe Webster embodied the selfless and supportive nature that resonated in the heart of our fair volunteers, parents, leaders, and supporters. His family presents these scholarships in his honor and memory.
