This week we are recognizing the National Work Zone Awareness Week, representing the start of road construction season.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation anticipates more than 400 highway improvement projects across the state this year, and is promoting safe driving in work zones and road worker safety.

Here are some safe driving tips in construction zones entering height of road construction season:

-Reduce your speed

-Maintain safe spacing from vehicle in front of you

-Watch for construction vehicles entering or exiting site

-Prepare yourself for rough road conditions and lane diversions

-Avoid use of cell phone

-Be patient and plan for extra time

Remember we all want to get to our destinations safely, including construction workers. 👷 🚧

Finding safe parking is a constant struggle for truck drivers across the U.S. According to a report from the U.S. Department of Transportation, 98% of drivers regularly experience problems finding safe parking.

This week, the Truck Parking Safety Improvement Act was reintroduced in Congress to expand commercial truck parking through $755 million in grant funding.

If passed, the legislation could help to improve driver’s wellbeing, safety and supply chain efficiency. Read more about the bill here.

Trucking companies and drivers are again pushing lawmakers to dedicate money for more parking spaces as one of their top safety issues.
