Brake Safety Week is here, and it's a reminder that safety starts long before an inspection.

As CVSA's Brake Safety Week takes place across North America, roadside inspections will focus on identifying brake violations and defects, with special attention on brake drums and rotors.

While I may not be behind the wheel or under the hood, I see firsthand the dedication it takes to keep our equipment road-ready. To me, Brake Safety Week is a chance to recognize the drivers and technicians who make safety a priority every day. Their attention to detail helps ensure our trucks are ready for the road and our communities are safer because of it.

It's also a reminder that safety is a shared responsibility. Whether it's performing a thorough inspection, reporting a concern or making a repair, every action plays a role in keeping our operations moving safely. I'm proud to be part of a team committed to doing things the right way. Thank you to the drivers and technicians who help keep safety at the center of everything we do.

How do you recognize Brake Safety Week where you are? Share your experience in the comments.

Rain can change the feel of a drive in seconds.

I know staying consistent and reliable behind the wheel is what makes the biggest difference when conditions get unpredictable.

I’ve seen drivers slow it down before slick spots, give themselves more space and stay tuned in to how the truck and road are reacting. It’s those small, steady adjustments that carry you through when visibility drops and stopping distances stretch.

Because when things get unpredictable, that consistency helps you stay grounded in the moment. It builds a sense of control and trust in how you handle whatever the road throws at you.

Some drivers find a rhythm that just works, and you can tell when they've hit it. 🚛

Gary Buccheit runs as a jet-set intermodal driver, moving freight across the country for weeks at a time, then settling into extended stretches at home between trips.

From what I hear in conversations, there's a rhythm to the way drivers run. Time out on the road, reliable time at home, then back into a routine that works. It takes commitment to keep freight moving the way Gary does, and the way it all fits together says a lot about the work he puts in.

What's the run rhythm that works best for you out on the road?

AI is becoming a force multiplier for supply chain organizations.

It doesn't replace context, experience and judgment. It complements them. This belief is exactly why I wanted to share a piece from my colleague Rodney Cromwell. He uses the example of Dedicated, where we use AI to tell us the best way to avoid empty miles and instead fill them with productive back-hauls, reducing wasted time and increasing productive miles.

Rodney's article explains that most supply chains aren't suffering from a lack of information. The challenge is connecting data quickly enough to support better decisions.

While artificial intelligence (AI) has become one of the most talked-about topics in supply chain management, Schneider has been leveraging advanced data science, automation and predictive technologies for decades. The company's technology-first approach has helped customers navigate complexity thro

Ever wish you could practice tough situations without the real-world risk?

I’ve seen drivers run through things like blowouts, skids and backing in a simulator before facing them on the road. It’s a more controlled, reliable way to experience those moments.

Here's what stuck with me though: that practice doesn't just make you safer in the moment. It builds the kind of steady, growing confidence that carries through a whole career. Every situation you've already worked through is one more thing you've got handled, and that adds up over the years.

For drivers who like hands-on learning, it's a responsible way to keep sharpening your skills and feel more prepared as you grow into bigger opportunities.

What does it take to keep service dependable when freight demands and routes are in flux?

Based on our everyday experiences, the answer is clear: rely on more than one way to move freight. Our team champions multimodal transportation by uniting different modes into a single, coordinated strategy.

We plan and execute all of it together, ensuring service remains dependable even as volumes and routes evolve around us. For teams balancing daily service targets while conditions shift, having flexible options that don’t add complexity makes the work much smoother.
