Tri-Rail is Southeast Florida’s commuter rail line, which extends 72 miles from Miami to Mangonia Park with a total of 18 stations. The name refers to the three counties through which the line passes: Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach. It is operated by the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority, an agency of the State of Florida. Tri-Rail had its origins when, in 1989 it began to operat

e as a temporary commuter rail service while construction crews widened Interstate 95 and the parallel Florida’s Turnpike. In 2003, the Florida Legislature transformed the Tri-County Commuter Rail Authority (Tri-Rail) into the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA). The Authority was created with a vision to provide greater mobility in South Florida, thereby improving the economic viability and quality of life of the community, region and state. The Authority’s mission is to coordinate, develop and implement a viable regional transportation system in South Florida that endeavors to meet the desires and needs for the movement of people, goods and services. The SFRTA currently operates Tri-Rail, which spans Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade counties. Additional regional services may be added in the future. Are you okay? ❤️ Sometimes people carry the heaviest burdens in silence and a simple check-in can remind someone they don’t have to face it alone. That’s why Tri-Rail is teaming up with Henderson Behavioral Health on a new su***de prevention effort. Florida ranked second in the nation for railroad trespassing casualties in 2025. Within the South Florida Rail Corridor, shared by Tri-Rail, Amtrak, and CSXT, there were 12 trespasser strikes in 2025, nine of which resulted in fatalities. The trend has continued into 2026, with Tri-Rail reporting 14 trespasser incidents to date, 10 of which were fatal.

TRI-RAIL RECORDS HIGHEST SUNDAY RIDERSHIP ON MAY 17 ⚽🚀

The South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA) reported that Tri-Rail recorded its highest Sunday ridership on Sunday, May 17, 2026, following the Inter Miami CF match against Portland at Nu Stadium.

Tri-Rail exceeded 8,600 rides this past Sunday, surpassing its previous record of 8,400 that was reached during the Ultra Music Festival in 2024. As a plus, the home team recorded its first win at its new home stadium that is located within walking distance of Tri-Rail’s Miami Airport Station.

“This record-setting ridership reflects the growing excitement surrounding Inter Miami CF and the important role public transit plays in supporting major sporting events,” said Diane Hernandez Del Calvo, SFRTA Interim Executive Director. “These numbers reinforce the growing demand for Tri-Rail service to get you to major events in South Florida.”

With the match starting at 6:00 p.m., about an hour earlier than the previous four home games, passengers were able to catch Tri-Rail’s last northbound train at the conclusion of the game, in addition to a special train added to supplement the service.

Tri-Rail has scheduled special train service for all weekend matches during the 2026 MLS season. The next home match is set for Sunday, May 24 at 7:00 p.m., with dedicated train service departing approximately 45 minutes after the final whistle.

“Our team has worked hard to ensure fans have a seamless travel experience before and after these matches and we look forward to continuing the service throughout the season,” said Ms. Hernandez Del Calvo. “As South Florida prepares to host the World Cup this summer, Tri-Rail is ready to move thousands of residents and visitors safely and efficiently across the region.”

SFRTA is planning special train service for the seven World Cup matches in Miami this summer, along with additional service for fan events in downtown Miami.
