Speeding was the leading violation during the 2026 Operation Safe Driver Week, according to results released by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA).

During the July 12–18 enforcement campaign, commercial motor vehicle drivers received 1,956 citations and 3,409 warnings across North America.

Speeding accounted for 342 citations and 772 warnings among commercial drivers. Other leading violations included failure to obey traffic control devices, seat belt violations, and handheld phone use while driving.

The campaign involved law enforcement agencies from 36 U.S. states, seven Canadian provinces, and Mexico.

However, not every driver interaction led to enforcement. More than one-third of all driver contacts ended without a citation or warning.

- Inspect Mechanical Systems: Check brakes, tire pressure, tread wear, lights, wipers, and fluid levels (oil, coolant, and power steering) before every shift.
- Check the Coupling: Ensure the fifth wheel, kingpin, and air lines are securely locked and undamaged.
- Maintain Three Points of Contact: Always face the vehicle and use handholds and steps when entering or exiting the cab or trailer to prevent slips and falls.

- Combine Tasks: Group fueling, restroom breaks, and meals into a single stop rather than making multiple stops.
- Plan Parking Early: Reserve parking spots in advance or schedule stops earlier in the day to avoid parking shortages.
- Manage Your Hours: Balance your 70-hour rolling clock to ensure you have hours available for high-paying runs, and utilize 34-hour resets strategically.
