There was a little more going on behind the scenes with this one😊 My ambulance had broken down, and pretty much immediately my thought was, okay, I need another van because I still need to be available. So I rented one and tried to make it feel as much like my ambulance as I could. I moved everything over, stopped and bought extra gym mats so I could cushion everything, and basically recreated my setup the best I could.
I’ll admit, pulling up in a completely different van felt a little strange😅 It was much bigger than mine, nothing is was where I’m used to it being, and obviously there was no Animalance logo on the side. But I told Maisie’s family what was going on and they were wonderful about it. Their only concern was their girl❤️
And thankfully I had Thomas with me❤️ He volunteers his time to help me, and I don’t know that he realizes how much I appreciate having him beside me on days like this. We figured out this giant van together 😂, he drove us, and everything just worked.
Then there was Maisie, who apparently decided none of us needed to worry quite so much. 😂 She got comfortable, rode like she’d done this a hundred times, and made the whole first trip in our temporary setup about as seamless as I could have hoped for🥰 Not exactly how I pictured the day going, but I couldn’t have asked for a better first passenger in the rental❤️
And as always, so thankful for the Partner team and the way they care for the whole family. ❤️

At Animalance, love shows up... and we mean that in every direction. There are people | come across through this work who just stand out to me. The ones who take an extra minute, notice what someone needs, help without making a big deal about it, and make things a little easier just because they can.
A lot of them are in veterinary medicine, but not all of them.
Some are people who have supported me, supported Animalance, or helped me keep doing this work in ways they probably don’t even realize, and when I see that in someone, I want them to know I see it.
Because love shows up in a lot of different ways, and some of it deserves to be named.

I have to give some love to the teams at Virginia Veterinary Centers Fredericksburg and Virginia Veterinary Centers Short Pump. From the care she received before we left, to making sure everything she needed was ready to continue with us, to the team waiting when we arrived, they were just GOOD.
And a little extra love for Dr. Wilkinson. I had never met her before that night, but you would’ve thought we’d worked together a hundred times. She was so easy to work with, so supportive of what we do, and took such incredible care of Spankie. I absolutely loved working with her🥹
This girl had some really good people in her corner that night, and I’m pretty dang glad I got to be one of them❤️

There’s a lot that happens behind the scenes when a patient needs more than one team, and I love when everyone just works together to make the next step happen❤️

A big shoutout to the team at Urgent Paws Vet Care for taking such great care of R***r, getting him through surgery, and then making sure he had everything lined up for the next part of his care.
And so much appreciation for the team at Virginia Veterinary Centers Short Pump for being there on the other side, welcoming this sweet boy in and continuing his care through recovery❤️

At Animalance, love shows up... and we mean that in every direction. Lately, I’ve been noticing the people inside these hospitals who truly live that out. Not just in how they support us, but in how they show up for their clients. The ones who go beyond what’s expected, who pay attention, who recognize what a family really needs and help them get there.
And we see it.
So in those moments, we choose to recognize it.
Intentionally, wholeheartedly, and with so much heart.
When we come across it, we’ll honor it in a way that feels just as meaningful. Because love shows up in a lot of ways. And some of it deserves to be named.

I can’t say enough about the team at Partner Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Center Richmond and the care they gave Sampson and his family. Seeing how much his final journey home mattered to everyone involved meant more than I can say.
There was so much thought put into getting this sweet boy home. They included us in every detail, worked with us to make a plan around what Sampson needed, and made sure we could all come together to give his family the goodbye they wanted for him.
So grateful we got you home, sweet boy❤️
