Our "First in Freedom" standard plate design – released in 2015 – honors 2 important milestones for our state in the American Revolution: the signing of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence and the Halifax Resolves. This made North Carolina the first colony to call for independence from British rule.

It's been one month since we launched a document upload tool that allows customers to upload proof or insurance, residency, and teen driver logs directly from their phone if they forget physical copies. We’re excited to allow more flexibility for customers to complete the services they need at the DMV without delay.
