In 1970, Jim Andrus and his wife, Mary, got into the trucking business in Mesquite, Nevada. Jim bought an old truck with a crushed-in cab with an engine that worked. As the business grew, Jim added a few trucks, and in addition to a separate fertilizer business, he started hauling hay cubes to California. Jim then built an office under the carport of his house and launched a crew of dispatchers, customer service representatives and accounting personnel. Eventually the office became so overcrowded that Andrus Transportation moved to a larger yard for the trucks to park. A trailer was brought onto the property to house the office staff and a shop was built to repair the growing fleet of Andrus trucks. In 1986, Jim's brother, Bill Andrus, who had been driving truck for many years, became a business partner. Andrus Transportation moved the corporate office in 1988 to St. George, Utah and a repair shop was established a few miles away. Today, Andrus Transportation Services boasts a modern fleet of 320 tractors and 800 trailers. The company that started out as a local produce service now specializes in on-time delivery of refrigerated and dry van freight, with headquarters in St. Andrus has additional terminals, located in Fontana CA, Dallas TX, and Salt Lake City, UT. Andrus Transportation has drop yards in Phoenix, AZ, Las Vegas, NV, Denver, CO and Northern, CA. While licensed in all 50 states, Andrus Transportation Services does most of its business in the 11-western states. The company has kept pace with the latest technology advancements in the trucking industry, including Qualcomm communication and tracking devices in every tractor and GPS tracking devices on over 75 percent of our trailers. A New Era at Andrus Transportation

In October 2010, James R. Andrus (Jimmy), one of Jim and Mary’s children, was promoted to President of Andrus Transportation. Jimmy came up through the business and has held many key positions of responsibility over the years, including serving as the current President of SUTA (Southern Utah Trucking Association). These positions and responsibilities have prepared Jimmy well for his new position and responsibilities. In addition to Jimmy’s promotion, Tav Andrus (one of Bill and Cloella’s sons) was promoted to Vice President of Maintenance. Tav also came up through the business and worked closely with his dad, Bill, in overseeing Andrus maintenance. Tav is now responsible for all Andrus maintenance shops and personnel. In April, 2011, Jim and Mary Andrus left behind full-time responsibilities at Andrus Transportation in order to serve as missionaries for their church (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints). Jim and Mary are now serving as LDS missionaries in the British West Indies Mission on the island of Tobago. Jim and Mary will complete their missionary service in October, 2012. In Memoriam

In April, 2011, Bill Andrus passed away after a lingering illness. Bill was known and loved by many in the St. George, UT and Mesquite, NV areas. Bill was a pillar in the St. George community as well as the trucking community and will be greatly missed. Cloella Andrus (Bill's wife) continues to work at our St. George shop.

🚛 **From Picking Up Rags to Leading 300 Trucks**

This Boss’s Day, we’re sharing a little of the story behind Andrus Transportation President and Owner **Jim Andrus**.

Jim’s career in trucking started when he was just **8 years old**, picking up rags around the shop. From there, he learned how to grease trucks and started learning a business his father had built with **just one truck**.

Today, Andrus Transportation has grown to a fleet of around **300 trucks** — but for Jim, building a successful trucking company has always been about more than growing the fleet.

It’s about creating an atmosphere where **drivers have what they need to succeed — and where good people want to stay.**

At Andrus, you'll find drivers who have been here for a year alongside drivers who have been here for **more than 30 years**.

That kind of loyalty doesn't happen by accident.

This Boss’s Day, hear from Jim about where Andrus started, how far we've come, and the kind of company we're still working to build every day.

🎥 **Watch Jim's story below.**

🏔️ **October up high is a different season than October down low.**

The valley might still be pushing 70°, while the first snow is already dusting the passes.

Days get shorter. Shadows stretch across the road earlier. Wildlife starts moving more around dawn and dusk. And conditions can change between the bottom of the grade and the top. 🚛

Experienced drivers know the mountains deserve a little extra respect this time of year.

🚛 Slow it down when you need to.
🚛. Give yourself room.
🚛. Keep an eye on the weather ahead
🚛 And never assume the next pass looks like the last one. 🛣️

**Same mountain. Different month. Different drive.**

Get over the hill. Get down the other side.

**Get home safe.** 💪

🧭 **Some people follow the route. Drivers learn the road.**

This Columbus Day, we’re giving a nod to the professional drivers who know a thing or two about navigating the miles ahead. 🚛🗺️

Knowing the terrain before you get there. Remembering which grades demand respect. Knowing where the weather can turn, where the good stops are, and which stretches of highway seem to go on forever. 🏔️

Technology can show you the route. **Experience teaches you the road.**

So today, here’s to the drivers who’ve built that knowledge one mile at a time — and to everyone celebrating along the way.

**Happy Columbus Day from all of us!** 🛣️

Stay safe and enjoy the road ahead.

What you come home to matters as much as the miles 🛣️

Experienced drivers usually aren't chasing a bigger number. They're chasing a better week — good miles, straight answers, and a schedule that leaves room for the rest of your life. 🚛

Home time looks different depending on what you run. We won't pretend otherwise. What shouldn't change is that somebody is actually paying attention to it. 🤝

More than 50 years in trucking, and we still answer the phone.

If you want a long-term home instead of a short-term seat, see if Andrus is right for you. 💪

🌼 **Sometimes the smallest things make the biggest difference.**

Let somebody in when the lane gets tight. Flash the lights to let another driver know they’re clear. Hold the door for the person behind you because you know they’re trying to make the most of their 30. 🤝🚛

Professional drivers do things like this every day without giving it much thought.

Today, it just happens to have a name: **Do Something Nice Day.** ☀️

Out on the road, a little patience, courtesy, and respect can go a long way.

**Being decent to people isn’t a policy. It’s a habit.** 💪

Keep looking out for each other out there.

Some holidays you can actually taste 🌮

Happy National Taco Day!

Every driver has a spot. Usually one nobody would ever find unless another driver told them about it. 🌮

That's half the job, honestly — knowing where to eat in a town you've never lived in. 🚛

So where's your favorite taco? 🌮
Drop the town and the exit. 📍
Somebody reading this tonight is running that way. 🛣️

The West looks a little different from a windshield 🏔️

You notice things other people never see. Where the grade starts to climb. Which pass is already cold while the valley is still warm. How the light hits rock at the end of the day. ☀️

Same highways, different country every few hundred miles. Desert, mountains, coast, high plains. 🛣️

Some people drive the West for a living. After a while it's just where you're from. 🚛

☕ **Good coffee. Open road. Maybe even a fresh cut.** 💇‍♂️🚛

National Coffee Day and National Hair Day share the calendar today — and honestly, both can make a long week on the road feel a little better.

For drivers, coffee is practically part of the pre-trip. Hot, strong, and preferably waiting before the sun comes up. ☀️

And a fresh haircut? Sometimes it’s the little things that make you feel refreshed and ready for another week of miles.

So here’s to the truck stop that always has a fresh pot brewing, the barber who can squeeze you in when you’re home, and all the little comforts that make life on the road a little better. 🛣️

**Drivers, what’s your go-to coffee order when you’re out on a run?** ☕👇
