Last night we received an urgent call from a client needing oil boom deployment for bunkering. (No spill, just a precautionary requirement but the terminal.) We were able to mobilize a crew, load the boom and get underway in an hour.
Pro tip - always check with the terminal for their rules and requirements before scheduling any services in Port. This can avoid costly delays or even failed service attempts.

🚨 If the Jones Act goes away, U.S. maritime doesn’t “adapt.” It collapses. 🚨

WHAT THAT FUTURE LOOKS LIKE WITHOUT THE JONES ACT

🌍 Foreign flags flood domestic routes, and U.S. operators get undercut overnight
🧨 A race to the bottom on wages, safety culture, and standards
🏚️ American shipyards go dark as demand evaporates
👷‍♀️👷‍♂️ Mariner jobs disappear—careers wiped out, communities hollowed out
đź”— Supply chains get outsourced to whoever offers the cheapest flag-of-convenience deal
🛡️ National security takes a hit when foreign adversaries enter our waterways, and the U.S. loses the workforce it relies on in emergencies

This is exactly why even “temporary” waivers are a slippery slope—they weaken domestic maritime stability and put mariners’ livelihoods at risk.

âś… TAKE ACTION (RIGHT NOW):

⛔ Oppose the Jones Act waiver—tell policymakers: Stop gambling with U.S. maritime.

🏛️ Join us at AWO’s Spring Convention & Barge-In, May 12–13 in Washington, DC, and make the case in person. Register here: https://www.americanwaterways.com/events/spring-convention-barge

If we don’t draw the line now, the next waiver won’t be “temporary.”

Now that we've had a few days to catch our breath, check out the recent work we did in support of the US Navy. We were taking care of the USS Kearsarge during her stay in Houston for Fleet Week.

Milling new parts and building an adapter plate to crossover to obsolete parts. Gotta do whatever it takes to keep moving forward these days. I hate replacing a whole piece of machinery because the new stuff never seems to last. I'd rather focus my efforts on keeping the old stuff running on most cases. Especially if the old machine doesn't have a computer controlling it.
