Flying into LaGuardia? Read on:
As LaGuardia undergoes a large-scale renovation, airport officials have implemented new pick-up procedures for passengers using for-hire vehicle/car service (FHV). If you are flying into LaGuardia on Air Canada, American, Envoy, Frontier, Jetblue, Southwest, Spirit, United or Virgin America, these airlines all serve Terminal B and these new changes will impact you. If so, please read on for some important information.
Airport officials have been making efforts to reduce the amount of traffic on the airport roadways as the airport undergoes significant construction, and for the at least the next month, passengers who are arriving at Terminal B and using a FHV must be picked up in a new location that is west of the terminal. Note that these new procedures do not impact departing passengers being dropped off. New ground transfer locations at Terminal B are already in effect, with the taxi stand relocated to the west end of the terminal to allow easier off-airport access.
To get to the new pick-up area, arriving passengers should follow the signs to the “Passenger Pick-up Area 11B,” near the terminal’s exit and take the green route shuttle bus. Because the new area is only intended for pick-ups and not for parking, there is a five-minute time limit on waiting vehicles. Please be sure to call your driver upon landing and then call again once you are on the green route shuttle bus to ensure that your car is waiting in the area when you arrive. If you prefer to walk, it is approximately a ten minute walk to reach the area. According to airport officials, customer service ambassadors will be on hand to offer assistance should you have any questions about how to reach the new area.
I realize the extra step in between getting off of your plane after a long trip and into one of our comfortable cars is an inconvenience, but we are bound to abide by the airport’s regulations. Airport officials are optimistic that this pilot pickup location will actually reduce congestion and travel time as the new area provides a much more direct route to access the airport’s exit and the Grand Central Parkway. The airport officials will evaluate its impact on traffic over the next month during the busy spring break, Easter and Passover season, and it may become a permanent pick-up procedure. If this procedure changes, we will notify our customers as soon as possible.
Sincerely,
Ray S.
