On World Ocean Day, and every day, we are committed to supporting environmental stewardship across the maritime industry.

For more than 20 years, COSCO SHIPPING Lines has voluntarily participated in Vessel Speed Reduction (VSR) programs on both the U.S. West and East Coasts. These initiatives encourage vessels to reduce speed when approaching ports and environmentally sensitive marine areas, helping to lower emissions, reduce underwater noise, and protect marine biodiversity.

We are proud to support several leading environmental programs:

🟩 Port of Long Beach Green Flag Program
Since 2005, COSCO SHIPPING Lines has achieved 100% annual compliance with the program's vessel speed requirements, earning the Green Flag Environmental Achievement Award each year. The program has played an important role in reducing smog-forming emissions and diesel particulates in Southern California.

🐳 Protecting Blue Whales and Blue Skies Program
This voluntary initiative, supported by government agencies and environmental organizations, aims to reduce ship strikes involving endangered whales, lower underwater noise, and cut greenhouse gas emissions along the California coast. As an active participant since 2018, COSCO SHIPPING Lines achieved 89% of total transit distance at or below 10 knots within designated speed reduction zones during the 2024 season, earning the program's highest honor—the Sapphire Award.

🚢 Clean Vessel Incentive Program
Administered by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, this program encourages ocean carriers to adopt cleaner technologies, fuels, and operating practices that exceed international environmental standards. At the 2026 Sustainability Summit, COSCO SHIPPING Lines North America was recognized for its participation and environmental performance.

These long-standing partnerships and achievements reflect our commitment to advancing sustainable shipping, supporting decarbonization efforts, and helping preserve healthy oceans and marine ecosystems for future generations.

On , we recognize the importance of advancing sustainable transportation and reducing emissions across global supply chains.

As part of COSCO SHIPPING Lines’ commitment to greener shipping, we are proud to introduce our first series of 16,000 TEU container vessels:

· COSCO SHIPPING YANGPU
· COSCO SHIPPING CARNATION
· COSCO SHIPPING PANAMA
· COSCO SHIPPING LILY

These next-generation vessels represent a significant milestone in our fleet modernization and efforts. Deployed on key Asia–North America trade routes, they support growing customer demand for more sustainable and efficient transportation solutions while maintaining the reliability and capacity required by global supply chains.

Why methanol?
✅ Reduced greenhouse gas emissions compared to conventional marine fuels
✅ Near-zero sulfur oxide emissions and significantly lower particulate emissions
✅ Supports the maritime industry's transition toward lower-carbon operations

From the successful maiden trans-Pacific voyage of COSCO SHIPPING YANGPU to the deployment of all four vessels across our Asia–U.S. service network, this series marks another step forward in building a more sustainable future for shipping.

Together, we are helping move global trade while advancing the transition to greener, lower-carbon logistics.

Did you know that women's participation in the Mexican maritime industry remains below 20%, despite the growth of foreign trade and logistics expansion linked to ports and global supply chains?

This topic was one of many covered as part of the “Women in the Maritime Sector Forum: Leadership, Contribution and Future of the Industry,” organized by Cosco Shipping Lines Mexico. Hosted on May 18 at the Instituto de Investigaciones Jurídicas, UNAM, female directors, academics, and sector representatives gathered to study women’s participation in the maritime-port sector and discuss gender equality in this strategic industry.

The hybrid event featured in-person and virtual participation from prominent organizations and institutions, including Asociación Mexicana de Agentes Navieros, Asipona Manzanillo - Administración del Sistema Portuario Nacional, Women's International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA México), and Universidad Veracruzana, which contributed valuable perspectives on the challenges of and opportunities to strengthen female inclusion in the maritime industry. 🚢💁‍♀️

The key takeaway? As demand for specialized talent in the global maritime industry continues to grow, the professional development of the next generation of women leaders depends greatly on the support, mentorship, and guidance of executives and industry experts already in decision-making roles.
