A marching band is 150 students, their instruments, their uniforms, and everything they need to be ready to perform the morning after they arrive.

There's one practical way to move all of that from Pennsylvania to Florida overnight. Campbell Bus Lines did it.

The kids slept on the coach, spent the next day in the park, and marched down Main Street at the Magic Kingdom the morning after that.

And the ride wasn't something to get through on the way to the good part. Hampton's band director, Chad Himmler, counts it as part of what the trip taught them:

"We slept overnight on the bus and then we go into a park all day… they don't realize it, but they're learning perseverance."

That's what doesn't show up in a fleet spec. The coach isn't just how the trip got there — it's the reason the trip could exist at all, and it turned out to be part of the lesson.

We're producing several short documentaries about this trip for Campbell Bus Lines. This is the first.

This past Spring Hampton High School's marching band left Allison P...

Some of you found this in the comments yesterday. It deserves its own post.

Randy Keeling doesn't just drive Freedom 39. The first Thursday morning he took the bus out on the road, he went home and wrote a song about it.

Four minutes and he sings it from the bus's point of view with members of his family as the backing band. A talented group of motorcoach professionals we are fortunate to have on our staff here at Campbell Bus Lines.

Words and music by Randy Keeling. Music video below. 🇺🇸

Campbell Bus Lines professional motorcoach operator Randy Keeling walked into a garage, saw her for the first time, and gave her a name.

Freedom 39.

He was proud to drive bus five, bus fifteen, bus twenty-five. But this one, he says, means something. He calls her a special lady, and he isn't joking.

Episode 2 asks three people what freedom actually means — a driver, a designer, and an owner. And somewhere in the middle of it, an Army veteran walks across a hotel parking lot in Sturbridge, Massachusetts, with something to say.

Part 2 — The Driver. Full episode below. 🇺🇸

Ask any of them what they remember, and the story starts on the bus.

Falling asleep somewhere in Georgia. Waking up in Florida. Getting off after an overnight ride and going straight into the park. And then marching down Main Street at the Magic Kingdom with 150 of your closest friends.

This spring we carried the Hampton High School Marching Band to Orlando and back, and we brought a camera along for it.

"He wanted to do something different."

That's how it started — a conversation between Todd Campbell and Sandie Marquis of Budget Truck and Auto Inc who serve together on the United Motorcoach Association board.

The 250th was the brief from day one.

Eight concepts. About 1,000 square feet of vinyl. Several days on the install.

One brand-new Prevost H3-45, out of Slippery Rock Town-Crier.

America turned 250 this year, and we wanted to mark it somewhere people would actually see it. Not a poster. Not an ad. Out on the road, where we've been for 57 years.

This is Part 1 — how the wrap came to be.

She's got a name, too. Her driver gave it to her. That's Part 2.

When Todd Campbell said he wanted to do something different with a ...

When the American Bus Association's Bus Repair and Maintenance Council visited Campbell Bus Lines as part of their summer summit meeting in Pittsburgh, it wasn’t just a tour — it was a reminder of what makes this industry strong.

In this video, you’ll see our maintenance team sharing the real-time tire-monitoring technology and hands-on practices we use every day. We opened the doors, showed the work, and talked openly about what keeps our coaches safe.

That’s the spirit we believe in. We’re competitors on the road, but neighbors in the industry. When one of us raises the bar, we all travel safer.

Proud to collaborate, share what works, and be good neighbors to the motorcoach community.
