Yesterday, April 29, 2025, Our 47th President of the United States of America, Donald J Trump signed an Executive Order that requires CDL truck drivers to read, write and speak English fluently. I have been involved in the trucking industry to some extent since 1984. That rule has always been a requirement until President Obama made a request that it not be enforced any longer. Since that change I have seen many negative effects from it. I'm hoping to see the enforcement of this done quickly for the safety of our families, friends and neighbors.
A person unable to read and comprehend road signs is a detriment to the safety of our highways.
The Comercial Drivers License (CDL) and the trucking industry is federally regulated. Because of common sense and the new Executive Order I'm hoping our members of the NCGA will make a strong effort to force the North Carolina Drivers License division to only offer the CDL test in the English Language. If a person can't pass that test they are truly unable to read or comprehend English. Make Americas Highways Safe Again!
