In 1993 George purchased his first used 379 long hood Peterbilt, which became his youngest son Brian's truck. This was the beginning of the long hood era, but not the end of cabovers for George. (I could post cabover transformations for days.)

In 1995 George ordered the first 379 "GVD Green" long hood from DSU Peterbilt. The paint color came from a Peterbilt cabover owned by Bettencourt Transportation Services out of Coos Bay. The '95 became Brad's truck #22.

George continued to replace cabovers with long hoods, all ordered in different colors, and switched from flatbeds to 53' curtain vans.

By 2011 we were up to 25 trucks, 40 trailers and approx. 10 Owner Operators, hauling in Oregon, California, Washington, Idaho, Montana and Texas.

Due to mills closing earlier, appointments required and drivers' hours of service, etc. Drivers were dropping and hooking to different trailers to help with efficiency. One truck might be Orange and the trailer behind it blue. It just wasn't George's style. In 2011, we began painting the entire fleet green, creating what's now known as GVD green.

In 1977 IMT closed its doors, Boise Cascade approached George and asked if he could take over the veneer haul, marking the next stage of growth for the company. More cabovers were added, along with more drivers as the business continued to expand.

George purchased a new 1977 Peterbilt but hung on to the '72. George continued to drive and dispatch (with the help of Marianne, who would literally flag trucks down on the side of the freeway if the dispatch changed) until 1981, he parked his truck and became the full time dispatcher.

In 1987 the former IMT building was up for sale, just as the trucks were outgrowing George's residence, making it a perfect time to purchase it and bring everything full circle.

It's hard to believe it all began with one truck. No fancy fleet, no short cuts. Just determination, sacrifice, hard work, long hours and a love for trucking. Everybody sees the success years later. Few see the beginning. Here's a look at the first 3 trucks George owned and how his trucking journey began.

George bought his first truck in 1969, a 57 GMC. He was still milking cows on his family's dairy and in between milkings he would pick up a load of hay.

In 1970 he traded in the GMC for a 59 Freightliner, still working on the dairy, but getting closer to his dream.

December of 1971, George bought his first brand new 1972 Peterbilt cabover. He took a leap of faith, leaving the family dairy to build a life in trucking. He leased to IMT in Tangent, Or and started hauling wood products, and hay to local dairies. To be continued....

Rest in peace Larry Lemmons. A well known name in the trucking industry and someone well respected. His passing is a real loss to Longview and to the trucking community. He will be missed, and thoughts are with his family and everyone at Lemmons Trucking.

From a field in Orland, Calif to the shop in Tangent, Ore, this 1964 GMC "Cracker Box" has been a long time coming. George used to ask about it every year at the ATHS NorCal "Orland" Truck Show, and in 2020 (almost 8 years later) he finally brought it home from Porter's Welding.

This past year he and Blayne have been bringing it back to life and getting it ready for Brooks. When they're not working on company trucks, this is where you'll find them. Blayne did all the body work and painting; and George is realizing it's hard to make a Cracker Box look like a Peterbilt.
