As we roll into 2026, I am hoping to share a little bit of industry news of the era.
How important was transportation in the rugged Colonial Period where so much was going on in Philadelphia, Richmond and Williamsburg.
Were horse and riders for hire at a premium?
Were the beautiful carriages and heavy duty wagon used to get travelers and information between these most important cities as the Founding Fathers put ideas to paper and needed their peers to read and understand the importance of the developing proclamations that would evolve into the Founding Documents.
o Poor Road Conditions: Roads were often little more than cart paths, subject to mud, flooding, and seasonal closure. This made long-distance, scheduled carriage travel unreliable.
o To be continued…..
