We are about 24 hours from the start of the storm. I have observed some model discrepancies, but the European model has been the most consistent so far so I’m choosing to go with that. Before I post this - please know the following:

1. This will be a dangerous system REGARDLESS of how much snow falls.
2. Temperatures will drop RAPIDLY once the arctic front arrives. Temp drops of 40 degrees have already been observed in less than an hour with the passage of this front to our west. This will cause a flash freeze.
3. Just because some of us aren’t under a blizzard warning (yet) does not mean it is “less bad” or “weaker”. It means that the NWS offices for those areas didn’t want to issue one yet. I suspect they may change their mind.
4. Winds are going to be pretty intense at times. There is a consistent model signal for 50+ MPH wind gusts.
5. Wind chills will be in the double digits below zero. This speaks for itself.

Now, this is the 18Z run of the European model for snowfall totals using what is called the Kuchera method (I can explain this at a later time). 6” minimum area-wide is a safe bet. This is more than enough coupled with the wind to cause whiteouts and other issues.

Preparations should really be rushed to completion, especially if you experience a power loss. You do not want to be without heat in this kind of cold, it would be deadly.

I stand by my prior statement of the fact that this is a potentially life threatening and very dangerous storm. It can and just may throw us curveballs at the last minute that forecast models aren’t picking up on. This could be good, or bad. Be ready for it just in case.
