MORNING UPDATE

American Airlines has cancelled all flights today at Wichita Falls Regional Airport. Both the Regional Airport Terminal and Kickapoo Terminal ARE OPEN regular hours today.

FallsRide has suspended bus service today due to road conditions. We will inform the public once we have further information for Tuesday’s routes.

Currently, no warming stations have been opened in Wichita Falls. Our City of Wichita Falls Emergency Preparedness Coordinator is closely monitoring the situation, and we will inform the public if they open up.

ELECTRICAL OUTAGES - WHAT WE KNOW

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) has instructed utilities to begin rotating outages. These are controlled, temporary interruptions of electrical service that rotate through different parts of the electric grid.

Please note, the City of Wichita Falls is not shutting electricity off. Area electricity providers (Oncor) are complying with ERCOT’s instructions.

During this time, conservation remains critical, and ERCOT continues to urge all Texans to limit and reduce their electric use as much as possible. Rotating outages typically last 15-45 minutes in each area but may vary. These outages have been proven effective at protecting the electric grid during times of incredibly high electric demand and low supply.

Some customers may experience longer outages if power surges cause equipment failure during the restoration process. Potential power surges can be minimized by turning off appliances, lights, and other equipment, except for one task light to determine when power has been restored.

ELECTRICAL OUTAGES – WHAT WE DON’T KNOW

It is not known at this time how long they need for rotating outages will last. Some of the outages customers are experiencing may not be a part of the planned outages. If you lose power for longer than 45 minutes, you can report the outage to Oncor online at oncor.com. We have noticed a longer than wait time on the website, most likely due to heavy online traffic.
