Brake Lining and Pad Tips

👉Inspect visible portions of the brake lining and pads during pre-and post-trip inspections.
👉Look for signs of missing linings, such as grooves in the drum from rivet contact.
👉Look at the shoe-to-drum clearance and ensure there is adequate lining on the shoe.
👉Look for any signs of leaks from the hub or other components that may be contaminating the lining/pad surface.
👉 Ensure there are no missing lining blocks.
👉Check for visible cracks or voids in the lining block.
👉Check for any exposed rivets or lining blocks that look loose on the shoe.
👉On disc brakes, pay particular attention to the condition of the rotor, such as heavily rusted rotors across the entire friction surface on either side or metal-to-metal contact.
👉Make sure all repairs are consistent with the brake manufacturer’s requirements and guidelines.
👉Note any issues in your driver vehicle inspection reports and report them to the motor carrier to have the defective linings/pads repaired

If you own a business that takes deliveries, you have ample opportunities to thank drivers every day.

Ways you can make your business more driver-friendly include:

👉Put a sign on your dock thanking drivers;
👉Make sure drivers have access to restrooms, and, if possible, a place to relax while waiting for paperwork to be processed;
👉Provide truck drivers with gift baskets or gift cards, or even just bottled water and snacks go a long way;
👉Encourage your associates to ask if drivers need anything when they arrive at your business.

👉Use sunscreen
Just because you spend most of your time inside the truck, doesn’t mean you’re immune to sunburn caused by rays shining through your driver’s side window. Wear a hat, sunglasses, and long sleeve shirts for extra protection.
👉Drink plenty of water
Sometimes it seems like the sun literally sucks the hydration out of us. Even if you’re sitting all day, you need to stay hydrated. Aim to drink at least eight glasses of water each day to keep your energy up.
👉 Be careful in construction zones
Many cities decide to do road work during the summer, so be sure to use caution when driving through a construction zone. Keep in mind that violations in work zones are doubled or even tripled.
👉 Regularly check tire pressure
Underinflated tires are at increased risk of having a blowout. And you definitely don’t want to be stuck in the middle of nowhere with a flat tire — in the heat of summer. Do yourself a favor and check tire pressure before you head out.
👉Inspect the brakes
With more tourists hitting the road during the summer, truck drivers are more likely to be stuck in traffic jams and rely heavily on their brakes. In addition, hot temperatures can lead to brake fading or the loss of friction when brake components fail to absorb heat. Take a few minutes to inspect your brakes regularly.
