The film starred Burt Reynolds as Bo "Bandit" Darville, Sally Field, Jerry Reed, Jackie Gleason, and Dom DeLuise, and was directed by Hal Needham from a screenplay by Jerry Belson and Brock Yates. The sequel to the 1977 hit follows the Bandit and his partner Snowman as they transport a pregnant elephant from Miami to Dallas within three days, once again evading pursuit from Sheriff Buford T. Justice.

Made on a seventeen million dollar budget, the film opened as the top-grossing release in the country, earning nearly 17.8 million dollars in its opening week alone, and went on to gross 66.1 million dollars domestically, becoming the eighth-highest-grossing film of 1980 despite receiving generally negative reviews from critics, including a one-star rating from Roger Ebert. ~ Doc Blackmon
