In Ngome, a rural area near Nongoma in KwaZulu-Natal, many Catholics believe that the Virgin Mary (“Mother Maria”) appeared to a German missionary nun named Sister Reinolda May between 1955 and 1971. These events are known as the Ngome Marian apparitions. �

Sister Reinolda said she experienced 10 visions of Mary.
Mary identified herself as “The Tabernacle of the Most High.”
She reportedly asked for:
prayer,
repentance,
conversion to God,
and a shrine to be built where “seven springs meet.” �

The place where the springs were found later became the Ngome Marian Shrine, which today is one of the biggest Christian pilgrimage sites in Southern Africa. Many people visit to pray, collect spring water, and seek healing or spiritual peace. �
