The Department of Transport just gazetted Uber’s registration application TODAY—over 3 months after the official March deadline. While Bolt, InDrive, and Maxim complied on time, Uber is lagging behind but still running.

⚠️ THE NEW E-HAILING LAWS ARE HERE: Safety Step or Moving Target? ⚠️

The Department of Transport has formalised strict new regulations for Uber and Bolt vehicles under the National Land Transport Amendment Act.

Here is what is now legally required:
🚨 Physical Panic Buttons installed inside the vehicle.
📍 Live Location Tracking running from start to finish.
🏷️ Visible Vehicle Branding to stop "fake" operators.

The Big Debate: While panic buttons are highly welcomed, the National e-Hailing Federation (NEFSA) warns that mandatory branding paints a massive target on drivers' backs for taxi intimidation.

Bolt South Africa has officially announced a nationwide rollout of MANDATORY Rider Identity Verification! 🇿🇦📱

To curb the recent wave of violent attacks on drivers, passengers will now be required to:
📥 Input their South African ID number
📸 Take a live selfie in the app
👤 Check against Department of Home Affairs records before booking!

This is a massive step for driver safety, but will it cause passengers to switch platforms, or will it finally make the industry safer?
