Vacancy: Night Shift Controller

PINDULO VDM (Pty) Ltd, an industry leading freight and logistics company, is currently looking for a Night Shift Controller to join our team at our Saldanha operations. Please note this is a night shift position.

Job Description:
• Responsible for the allocated fleet of trucks and drivers during night shift operations, serving as the primary liaison between drivers, site-based staff and the day shift controller to ensure seamless shift handover.
• Monitor and track all vehicle movements throughout the night shift using the Telematics Tracking System, responding promptly to delays, breakdowns, route deviations and driver behaviour concerns.
• Coordinate night shift operations to ensure optimal efficiencies, minimal standing times, and adherence to delivery deadlines, fuel targets and customer service level agreements.
• Manage and update vehicle loading schedules, coordinate driver availability and transport requirements, and ensure all loads are planned and dispatched in accordance with client requirements and operational priorities.
• Complete shift-end reporting and all administrative processes from load initiation through to handover for final invoicing.
• Perform all administration functions on the TMS and Telematics Tracking System; analyse tracking data to manage driver performance, identify trends and poor driving behaviour, and implement corrective measures to drive continuous improvement. Escalate any critical incidents or risks to management timeously.

Minimum Requirements:
• Matric / Grade 12 or equivalent qualification
• Minimum 1–2 years’ experience in a fleet control, transport operations, or logistics environment (essential)
• Valid driver’s licence and own reliable transport (essential – must be able to commute during night shift hours)
• Willing to work night shift for extended periods

Skills:
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact on all levels
• Computer literate – proficient in MS Excel, Outlook and fleet tracking/TMS systems (e.g. Mix Telematics or similar)
• Ability to work accurately while processing large volumes of information
• Strong customer service skills
• Ability to work in a team environment
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making ability, with the confidence to act independently during night shift hours
• Highly detail-oriented with the ability to maintain accuracy under pressure
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to multi-task and manage competing deadlines

Pindulo VDM is looking for 10 motivated candidates to join the 2026 Occupational Certificate: Truck Driver Programme in Saldanha, Western Cape.

This opportunity is open to South African citizens aged 18 to 35 who have:
• Grade 12 or equivalent,
• a valid EC / Code 14 driver’s license with PRDP,
• Clear criminal record.

Operational excellence is built by people who consistently go above and beyond. This month, we recognise Helena van Wyk.

Helena joined Pindulo VDM in December 2018 as a Weighbridge Coordinator at our Saldanha depot. Over the years, she has become a key part of the operation, not only managing weighbridge activities but playing an active role in training and appointing new weighbridge operators.

Together with her team, Helena oversees three road weighbridges and two container weighbridges at Saldanha on a 24/7 basis. On busy operational days, up to 250 vehicles and 25 packed containers move through these weighbridges, with every transaction and supporting document requiring precision, accountability, and accuracy.

Her leadership ensures that processes run without delay, even during peak operational periods. Her willingness to show up at all hours, including after hours, weekends, and public holidays, reflects the kind of commitment that keeps operations moving when it matters most.

Known for her positive attitude, reliability, and the way she supports her team, Helena continues to make her mark at Pindulo VDM.
